A Lesson Plan Using Technology to Engage Learners

Teachers will develop, create, implement and evaluate a technology infused lesson into existing course curriculum. A comfort level with the technology planned to be integrated into the lesson is suggested. This course is not designed to teach program basics but instead to be used as a tool to foster opportunities for our students. Through this six week journey teachers will look into each component of a lesson plan. Teachers will be required weekly to complete assignments and attach those assignments for instructor review. To complete this course a teacher will be required to implement their lesson and provide attached student example (s). To round out this course the final focus will be on where this lesson fits into the overall course content picture.

The Art of Effective Internet Searching and Website Evaluation

With the huge amount of information available on the World Wide Web, the ability to effectively locate and critically evaluate information are important skills for teachers and librarians, as well as their students in this information age. In this course participants will learn powerful searching skills to effectively and easily locate desired information, to assess it's appropriateness for particular purposes, and to evaluate it based upon it's authenticity, bias, and usability. This course provides a professional development opportunity to participants on a personal level as well as a technology integration opportunity for their classroom as the lessons highlighted in this course align to curriculum standards and can easily be used in classrooms from grades K through 12.

Connecting Teachers with the Digital Student
This course will examine current research on the way students in the digital age learn and how this translates into teaching practices. Additionally, participants will investigate web-based tools and video email technology for integration into their teaching in order to “reconnect” with students. Finally, participants will tap into the technology expertise of their students by having students teach a new tool or technique. A lesson plan will be developed by participants which draws upon the newly acquired knowledge.

Creating and Manipulating Digital Images using Microsoft Paint and Adobe Photoshop Elements
In this 15-hour online course, participants will create and import a variety of digital images for use in publications and presentations.

The Digital Classroom: Blogging, Podcasting, Wiki-ing and Other Fun and Exciting Tools on the Internet

There are so many new terms that we hear every day in conjunction with the Internet, how do we know what the y mean? This course will take you through a variety of applications on the web including blogging, podcasting, and wiki-ing (among o the rs!) Participants will discover what each tool is and how students use it outside the classroom. Then, participants will explore how it can be used in the classroom to inform instruction and assist is the preparation of students for the assessments. (NOTE: You will not need an IPOD or an MP3 player for this course. You will need a microphone/speakers or a headset. You will also need to download JAVA applets.)

Integrating Computers into the Differentiated Classroom

This course is designed to investigate the ways computer technology empowers the delivery of differentiated instruction in the classroom. Topics for investigation include how computer applications, software programs, computer generated resources, and the Internet support the integration of differentiated instruction, with emphasis on, the general principles of differentiation, areas where teachers can differentiate, the multiple intelligences of students, and management of diagnostic assessment. Participants will also gain insight into how computers enhance learning environments that invite differentiation, such as problem-based learning, group investigation, 4MAT and portfolios.

Integrating High Impact Web-Based Presentations

This course is designed to provide teachers with the necessary skills to build high impact presentations in conjunction with using the Internet as an educational resource within their curriculums. Teachers will learn to build presentations through graphical interface software known as MS PowerPoint. They will then in turn learn to integrate PowerPoint into projects and assignments in their units of study. Participants will gain an understanding of how to integrate the Internet into their presentations, making the access to their on-line resources manageable. In addition to learning the use of the technology, they will also learn appropriate procedures in applying technology within their classroom. This course provides a solid framework in meeting ISTE standards for both students and teachers.

Podcasting with GarageBand

GarageBand is a powerful computer program that allows users to compose podcasts and music. Podcasts can be sound recordings, video recordings or sound in combination with still photographs. There are educational podcasts online which can be used to enhance instruction. This course will focus on using GarageBand to reate podcasts as final projects/assessments. Having students create podcasts using GarageBand allows the student to
show off what they have learned to the World Wide Web. The course will explore possible uses of podcasts with some project suggestions, why these projects are useful and concentrate on how
to use the software program. Podcasts can be used in all disciplines and at all levels.

Using Technology to Enhance the Inclusion Classroom

This course is designed to provide information that will increase awareness and knowledge of the technology available to enhance the learning experience of a child with disabilities in an Inclusion classroom. Participants will research current technologies, as well as explore those that are available in their district. The current laws and trends in education dealing with Inclusion classrooms will be researched as well as the design of the ideal classroom with technology. Participants will do a technology assessment for a student with a disability, and survey other teachers and their use of technology with special education students. The final focus will be to create a lesson that integrates technology including modifications for special education students.

Web 2.0 for Educators

How Can Web 2.0 help me as an educator? This course aims to provide an understanding of what Web 2.0 is, help educators in terms of professional development, and look at its potential as a teaching tool. Educators will analyze the potential of having content come to them as opposed to the continuous search for information. Through practice and example educators will look at the value of collaboration in terms of professional development as well as a means of differentiated instruction for students.
